Zomato: How it became successful?

Food is not only basic necessity for some people; it is hobby of different people too. Nowadays, is we order food everyone mostly have one name on their mind ZOMATO. Zomato was founded as Foodiebay in 2008 and was renamed as Zomato in 2010. The founders of Zomato are Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah. They were students of IIT Delhi and were employees of Bain & Co. Everyone get there business idea by some way or the other, they got at their workplace by seeing their colleagues waiting for paper menu card of food. This was the time when Foodiebay was coming into market. Foodiebay first planted their roots in New Delhi, and then it came to various cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. The main shift came for their clients when they built an application for the startup. However, innovation needs funding so, the founder of the notable job search engine Naukri Sanjeev Bikhchandani was fascinated by Zomato, and he started to invest in the project. In 2010, he invested US$1 million to this project and in the same year some investors invested US$3.5 Million. In next year huge amount of US$ 10 Million came from Info Edge. The hurdles were too encountered by them and the main obstacle was to find each and every restaurant in the city so that client should not miss any finest restaurant but the work was handled very significantly by employees and founders to achieve their target. In early stages Zomato does not focus on earning money because when the site reached 62.5 million registration, many restaurants themselves come to advertise in their website and huge revenue was earned through this way only. The founders believed that the hiring correct person is the only way to companies’ growth and it was also the greatest hurdle to find workforce like this for startup. Now they have a squad who are vital in bricking their dream project. In 2012, Zomato also went internationally to provide their services in different countries including UAE, Sri Lanka, Qatar, UK, Philippines and South Africa and slowly the company conquer the food sector of most of the countries. Now, Zomato is serving 24 countries. Zomato claimed the security measures it uses to ensure the stolen passwords cannot be converted back into normal text, but it still urged users who use the same password on other services to change them. It also logged the affected users out of the app and reset their passwords. In July 2019, after an urge by a person that they should be delivered by Hindu delivery boy not by other religion, Zomato responded “There is no religion in Food. It is a religion”. Many Restaurants logged off from Zomato Gold because of very heavy discount to customers, However, Zomato founder Goyal admitted mistake, became ready to rectify it and called for sanity and truce. The success story of Zomato shows that hard work and determination to make it big will lead to achieving desired goals.
